- Conor Friedersdorf's "Two Dead Canaries in the Coal Mine", an effort to get those unconcerned about Comey's firing to take it seriously.
- James Fallow's "Five Reasons the Comey Affair is Worse than Watergate". Fallows was a 24-year-old reporter when the Watergate story first broke in 1972, so he has a perspective not many reporters today can boast.
- Friedersdorf again, this time in a piece entitled, "Donald Trump's Own Words Become 'Exhibit A' Against Him", examining Trump's recent sit-down with NBC's Lester Holt. That interview was surprising even for those of us who have become a little jaded by Trump's contempt for political and ethical norms.
- Michelle Cottle's "Why Trump was Surprised by the Comey Backlash" argues that Trump takes the phrase "All politics is personal" a little too much to heart for his own good.
